Wayne Newton
Once Before I Go
Wayne Newton is performing at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas for a limited time, with a full orchestra, videos and photos that tell the story of the fascinating 50 years of his life and career in the entertainment field. He is known all over the world as Mr. Las Vegas and he owns that title proudly. Wayne begins his story when he came to Las Vegas as a young boy and how he worked with many famous stars. It was Jack Benny took Wayne under his wing and had him be his opening act. www.waynenewton.com
Wayne’s first job was at the Fremont Hotel. He signed up for a two week job and it lasted for 46 weeks. He did six shows a day, six days a week and it was taking a toll on his voice, so he decided to play instruments to give his voice a rest during the show. Wayne taught himself how to play 13 instruments, the guitar, banjo and fiddle, among many others. It is very impressive to hear him play so many instruments in the show. Wayne is an incredible talent with a lot of charm and energy and he gives it his all when performing. I loved hearing all his old songs.
One of the highlights of his career was entertaining the men and women of our armed services, from Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan. He has taken over 16 USO tours overseas. He says it is one of the highlights of his life. Wayne was given numerous prestigious awards for his many years of entertaining the troops. The US Defense Department gave him the highest civilian award given to an individual for performing in all of these places.
Outside the Tiffany Theatre of the Tropicana is the Wayne Newton store where his piano, clothes, pictures and many awards are on display for his beloved fans to admire. I loved looking at all the pictures showing the progression of his life in his shows, TV and the movies. He has made many movies and loves to act, or should I say, just being himself.
Wayne has won the Entertainer of the Year many times and watching him on stage for over an hour brought so much joy to all of us. I can vividly remember him as a young boy and now I see him as a grown man who is one of the most wonderful human beings, still touching everyone’s heart. He is still sharing himself with all of us and I really loved the hug he gave me after I went back stage to meet him.
Show times are Tuesday – Saturday at 8:30 pm in the Tiffany Theatre at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas. Ticket prices are $79.99 and $99.99. A VIP package for $149.99 will give you the opportunity to meet and take pictures with Wayne Newton. Box office
